Woke up with the sun on my face, warm and inviting
like it knew my name, and came to call me back to living
I rose to close the drapes, and there you were beside me
and suddenly the room became a prayer I didn’t know I was saying
Is this what love feels like—this bliss?
my heart is quiet for once, and even the silence is smiling
You’re my sunshine; you make me feel happy
and when the world gets heavy, you turn my shoulders into wings
So I let the morning stay a little longer,
because loving you feels like light that doesn’t leave

Haunted By Your Eyes
like the blue moon at night,
you’re my compass
when streetlights die,
you guide my shadows home
like the deep blue sea,
your eyes are haunting and I swim to them,
even as my lungs beg for shore
dark skin princess of enchantment,
you amaze me
your glow turns my fear to worship,
my silence to song
if you are my end,
I still cherish our beginning
Because goodbye can’t erase how you made me feel alive
Welcome to Sophocles Writes
This is my personal archive of poems and short stories—soft-hearted, sometimes haunted, always honest. If you’re new here, start with a few pieces I love, then follow the trail into the rest of the archive.
I’m also available for paid writing and ghostwriting. If you need words that sound like you, but sharper—love letters, speeches, poetry, storytelling, articles, or website copy—I can help.

The first 24 seconds without you,
I was cool. Calm.
Your words still linger in my mind.
The next 24 minutes without you,
I wasn’t cool. I was disturbed.
So I called, just to hear your voice.
The first 24 hours without you,
I might lose my compass, become irrational.
Then I won’t stop thinking about you.
The loner is outside;
But I’ll be here,
waiting—patiently—for you to come back,
waiting for you to drown me in your affection.
As humans, we were meant to be in pairs.
Two eyes to see our partner’s beauty.
Two nostrils to take in their scent
Two take a walk under the moon.
But sometimes, we get matched with wrong pair,
Like a toddler matching the wrong shoes,
And like a toddler we can learn from experience.
We can grow to make better decisions.
“What’s yours will never pass you by”
That’s what were always told.
Don’t cry because it’s over,
But smile because it happened.
Smile because now you’re older, smarter and better!
Smile because no one can direct your affairs,
Laugh because no human can hurt you again!
What is one word that describes you?
The word I feel describes me perfectly is astute. What does astute mean?
Having or showing an ability to notice and understand things clearly: mentally sharp or clever.
If anything, I am an extremely clever human being. This doesn’t mean I’m proud or so full of myself. I am only answering a prompt and saying the truth as I see it.
Best Compliment
What was the best compliment you’ve received?
Hmm, interesting prompt!
I will pick a review of one of my short stories as the best compliment I’ve ever received. The story is titled Firefly.
In her words (she identifies as a female), she said “you need to see a psychiatrist, because this is too dark to be fiction”.
What. A. Compliment.
For my writing to generate such an amount of fear and uncertainty in a person is a compliment to me.
Back to basics
To my dedicated readers,
I say hello.
And to my new readers,
I say welcome.
Being a while since I dropped here,
Life has been unfair,
Can’t complain, but that’s why we call it Life.
The romance I always write about has been abolished from my heart.
The pain I write about has suppressed all feelings of hope.
The older we grow, the more difficult it becomes
But we have to move on and continue to struggle
To fight!
To move!
To wake up and keep the cycle going.
Hello You, after every hardship comes ease.
Hello, and welcome

Anthology of Poems
Hey there, my wonderful friends!
I hope you’re all doing great! I wanted to take a moment to apologize for not being as active on this platform as I used to be. But don’t worry, there’s a good reason behind it! I’ve been diligently working on something special that I’m excited to share with you all.
Guess what? I’m in the process of putting together an incredible anthology! It will feature the most beloved poems from my blog, carefully selected with the help of your support, comments, and likes. Without you, none of this would be possible!
Now, here’s where I need your continued support. I plan to publish this anthology on Amazon and to add an extra sprinkle of delight, I aim to release it on my upcoming birthday! It would mean the world to me if you could join me on this journey by checking out and grabbing a copy of my anthology.
Your encouragement and companionship have been invaluable throughout my blogging adventure, and I feel incredibly grateful for every one of you. Together, let’s celebrate the power of poetry and embark on this exciting next chapter!
Thank you in advance for your unwavering support. I’m truly excited about this project and can’t wait to share it with all of you. Stay tuned for more updates, and let’s make this anthology a beautiful tribute to our shared love for words.
Sending my heartfelt appreciation,
Ridwan Akinkunmi AJAGBE.
