Happy birthday Maryam.

Abdulganiy Maryam Oshoke (Marieabd)

Your pictures,
Are the stuffs of dream.
Your face,
Is what bliss literally means.

Astonishingly beautiful
Just the perfect blend of colour
Ode to a pretty queen
King of your heart, is around the corner
Extra special is what you are to me.

Entrepreneur, poet and a scholar

Happy birthday to Maryam, and I wish you the very best in this world and the hereafter. Have a blast sweetheart.

Dumb or Dark?

Some people claim I am just evil, full of darkness, like when I baptized a baby in hot water (I didn’t know the baby’s skin is not strong enough). Or when I mistakenly strangled a librarian with a book. Others claim I am just dumb. Like when I attempted to escape the police on my bicycle after a snitch in a blue shirt alerted the security officers. My crime? He claimed I killed his grandfather with a clock. How absurd!

All these claims and many more either support my darkness or dumbness. All I want is to be a farmer. To raise vegetables and flowers in my garden. Just yesterday, I helped an old woman cross the road. If I have darkness in me, would I ever want to help?

The betrayal

A beauty like no other
Courageous and charming
Beauty and brains without a doubt;
Smart and elegant she was
Every step she took was filled with grace and poise
Every man’s desire, but never an easy catch
She had eyes only for just one, the one soon to be her worst nightmare;
Alas! the one she loved, the one who stole her heart elopes with another
Betrayed she felt!

Filled with darkness and hatred for all men, the once elegant queen becomes a shadow of her own self!
Each passing day, the same questions fill her head, “was I not good enough?”, “was I not beautiful enough?”, “did I not love him enough?”
Sadly, she faded away with these unanswered  questions in her heart.

Lawal Kabirat Morenikeji

The weather is hot
But you are hotter
Oh! I am not even trying to flatter you
I don’t lie early in the morning.

Omidan Morenikeji,
Ọrẹ míì, as friendship goes
You are unique,
Beautiful daughter of the land.

This is a free verse
Great minds don’t follow the norms
Like your distema
Dragging both old and young suitors to your door.

Skies With cloud

Deep blue sky,
Where you see beauty,
I see chaos:
The thunderstorm of yesteryears
Destroyed my farm,
And with it,
My livelihood.

Crops and tree plants uprooted;
Livestock soaked to death.

You see beauty in clouded sky!
I see chaos.
You see hope,
I have fear.

Ramadan

Bloom
Divine blessings descend on me
Better,
Nicer
Stronger
And cleaner I become.

For eleven months I’m normal
But when it’s Ramadan
Like flower after a rain
I bloom.
Stronger
Nicer
Cleaner I become

With Ramadan,
I glow
I bloom.

A diamond in the rough

A heart of gold
A spirit so pure and kind
The light amidst darkness
The strongest of hearts
The bravest of warriors

A slave to the rich
A helper to the poor

One whose smile melts the heart and whose presence gives hope
A ruffian to some, a survivor to others;

But I say, a diamond in the rough!

The greatest kinda love

She has devoted her life to loving you Her love knows no bounds
Your success is her wish
Your happiness is her joy
In your absence she mopes
In your presence she’s elated
She lives everyday for you

She is indeed a rare gem
Cherish her and treat her like the queen she is!

Guest Post (BASSIEN)

Our Heroes
Out of the ashes,
In the crisis,
Our heroes rise,
With superman gone,
The world is alone,
Our heroes rise,
When humanity crumbles,
Our heroes’ tumbles,
In to save the world,
The search for fame is no more,
When the world was darkening,
They kept the light shining,
When hugs became dangerous,
They looked the danger in the face,
The trauma hits in different phases,
The death toll so intimidating,
Our heroes are still fighting,
Our need for superman is no more,
We are enough to fight and win this war.
Stay home, stay safe.

Apologies

We do things we’re not proud of
Just to show we’re humans
We try to evoke response
From the people we care about.

Silly questions and unruly accusations,
It’s not a way of judging
Just a way of wanting to be closer
Just trying to be of help.

Tight lipped,
Emotions in lock and key
Rarely showing weakness
Doesn’t make you any less human
Or more human
No man is an island.

No! I’m no judge,
I do care a lot. I really do
And I can’t force you until you’re ready.
Morenikeji, pardon me for the errors.

For you, Morenikeji.
