You promised to stay with me till eternity.
But I made a mistake,
What’s the duration of “your” forever?
69 days is an eternity to a mosquito.
And that was all you gave!

There’s a kind of loneliness that follows a man:
The kind that makes him see chemistry,
In a woman with little or no physical attraction.
That makes him feel like a mollusc
Lying alone, empty, on the ocean floor.
There’s a kind of loneliness that follows a man:
The kind that makes him find solace,
In the arms of an armadillo.
That makes him hit the soccer ball grudgingly,
Under the empty eyes of San Siro.
There’s a kind of loneliness that follows a man:
The kind that makes him find peace in herbs and spirits,
Greens , inorganic concoctions and organic solutions,
The Holy Trinity!
There’s a kind of loneliness that follows a man:
The type that makes him want to be alone,
Forever alone.
Six feet underground,
Or forever swimming with the dolphins.
For eternity!

There’s a kind of loneliness,
Where you keep seeing a face,
A face that’s driving you insane,
A face that makes you suddenly violent, and nauseated, and sad, and devastated.
A face that used to bring you comfort,
A face you can’t forget, no matter how hard you try.
A face that was the symbol of hope, and all that is good.
A face you wished you never knew.

When it comes to you,
I avoided error due to parallax.
But you weren’t made in a laboratory,
Even the greatest genetics engineer,
Can’t recreate your fingernails in it’s perfection.
Your smile is so hot,
The pH must be 1.
Of the seven billion people on Earth,
There’s only you, just one.
Nothing is perfect, I know.
Even the cleanest water have impurities.
But you, you are pure my darling.
Like adding water to Group 1 metals,
You’re explosive. Extremely radiant.
You and I should happen.
The perfect reaction.
The utmost irreversible reaction.
The level of ex(pectation) scattered by the previous abuser will only make one make an ex(ample) of the next person.
A victim wouldn’t be alone in the misery!

Atomic bombs destroyed Hiroshima,
The singular intensity of that reaction
Is minute compared to the hours I dedicated
To seeing you smile!
If I’d been holding a plutonium core,
When you flashed that smile my way.
Would have dropped it without thinking.
Good though,
Because that’ll make you the only Queen in Africa.
You’ve been generous with your smile,
And your singular awesomeness,
But what I really want is your love
Your unconditional love.
Then I’ll be a king, an happy king.
Imagine the intensity of our union,
Like plutonium and uranium in sync,
Without cooling apparatuses in sight.
The world can’t contain us.
February 23rd started like any other day,
This happened more than two decades ago
You had no idea what was a birthday
Nor that your existence would boost their ego.
It was, is, and always will be your day!
This is for you, my dear Amigo.
A friend of yours said some things about you
“intelligent, gentle, religious and awesome”
Accurate adjectives? Yes!
But all are understatements.
You are all that. And much more.
I had a dream,
You were in it.
I envisioned a future,
You were there.
As a friend, confidante and tutor!
And much more?
This is coming late,
But it’s better to come late, right?
Than never!

Beauty in Pink
For half a decade I’ve known you
And not for once do I call you beautiful,
Even though it has always been on my mind
Not until now.
Beauty is only skin deep they say:
We’ve been friends for a while, not today
And I know that your character, attitude and personality
Goes deeper than the visible surface.
Call you an angel, I won’t.
Take this as a joke, you shouldn’t.
An hasty poem this is;
But it runs deeper than the Lagos canal.
I’ve hidden behind the shroud of friendship for long.
Ayoife* and Ayoife that we knew.
All of them came and went, but here we are.
I’m no king nor prince sunshine
But would you be my queen?
* Ayoife literally means “the joy of love”, and it’s an endearment used for a lover.

I met a girl,
She wasn’t right for me
And she took what’s left of my humanity.
She was to be my queen,
And support me to build my dynasty.
But still, she left me;
In unfathomable misery.
She left me broken, shattered.
Body strong as ever with anger,
But my heart was slowly dying.
Far away from bliss,
And frolicking in the edges of oblivion I was;
Until I met her,
Another girl.
Now I’m alive. Vibrant.
Till this one also pull the plug.
Did I say pull the plug?
Well, there was a spark
But not electrifying. Not enough.
